The Second Shift of Being Homeless | Invisible People

Published by Invisible People on 30 September 2026.

Going to work was only part of my daily routine during the 23 nights I spent homeless. Before I could start my shift as a mechanic, I had to pack away the makeshift bedroom in my car, find somewhere to wash and change, keep my clothes clean and make sure everything was ready for another day.

The Second Shift of Being Homeless explores the work involved in appearing to live an ordinary life when you don't have a home, and how easily homelessness can remain invisible to the people around you.

The commissioned feature includes some of my original photographs from No Fixed Address.
