The backseat of a car with scattered clothing, a water bottle, and various personal items inside a dimly lit vehicle.
A view of Mont Saint-Michel, a historic island commune in France, with abbey buildings and a tall spire, surrounded by green fields and a river in the foreground, with grazing sheep.
A statue of a historical figure, likely a monarch or noble, standing on a pedestal with detailed carvings, in front of a dark, leafy background. A man stands to the right, reading or observing the monument.

Commissioned Storytelling

I work with organisations to photograph what actually happens, speak to the people involved and make the story clear in pictures and words.

About

A man sitting on the trunk of a silver Mercedes-Benz E-Class car, parked in a wooded area. He is wearing sunglasses, a black t-shirt, gray pants, and sneakers, with tattoos on his left arm.

I’m Sam Singleton, a photographer and writer based near Bristol.

My work moves between documentary photography, editorial writing and commissioned storytelling. I’m interested in people, work, systems, craft and the parts of ordinary life that are easy to overlook.

I came to photography through nearly sixteen years working as a mechanic, and that background still shapes how I look at people, places and the things we build. I make photographs, write reported and first-person stories, and take on commissions where close observation matters.

My photography and writing have been published by The Big Issue, The i Paper, Invisible People, the Centre for British Documentary Photography, MALVIE Magazine and Garage Talk Online.
