WRITING

I write about people, work, systems, craft and lived experience.

My writing includes first-person essays, reported features, interviews, commentary and practical pieces rooted in real experience. I’m interested in writing that makes complicated subjects clear without flattening them, and that pays attention to the details that usually disappear into the background.

Automotive writing is an important developing lane. Nearly sixteen years of workshop experience gives me a genuine understanding of mechanics, technicians, tools, training, labour and the culture around cars.

But I’m not limited to automotive subjects. I’m open to writing about housing, work, class, identity, photography, health, community, ordinary life and the systems people have to navigate.

The subject can change. The approach stays the same: concrete, candid, observant and unsentimental.

FIRST-PERSON

Essays and reflective pieces built from lived detail, memory and direct experience.

REPORTED AND EDITORIAL

Features, interviews and commentary that make people, systems and complicated subjects understandable.

AUTOMOTIVE

Writing from inside the motor trade about mechanics, cars, labour, repair, training and working life.

Editorial Storytelling for Organisations

Most organisations have more happening inside them than their usual communications can show.

I work with organisations to document what actually happens: photographing the people involved, speaking to them properly and turning that access into clear, reported editorial work.

That might mean a combined photography and writing commission, a reported feature, interviews, portraits or photography on its own. The work can support websites, publications, annual reports, recruitment, internal communications and social-impact reporting.

My background in mechanics, skilled work, housing and lived experience gives me a practical understanding of the subjects many organisations are trying to explain.

Blog

I also write a monthly blog called Field Notes that started when I was homeless and continues to document my life and the work.
